AT THE INTERSECTION OF LANGUAGE, CULTURE AND CODE

”

I'm Lizzy, an Amsterdam-born enthusiast passionate about technology that improves people’s lives in meaningful and inclusive ways.

I recently graduated with a Master’s degree in Human–Computer Interaction from Utrecht University. I hold a Bachelor’s in Cognition, Language, and Communication from the University of Amsterdam, including a semester at University College London. Across my academic journey, I have developed a strong interest in the intersection of language, technology, and design.

With a strong foundation in HCI, research is at the core of my work. I have extensive experience with both quantitative and qualitative research methods, developed through a wide range of AI and NLP projects. This includes designing and conducting user studies, analysing empirical data, working with language resources, and critically assessing model behaviour. I value research as a way to ground technological systems in both human experience and empirical evidence.

My work focuses on making NLP systems more inclusive and accessible, with particular attention to underrepresented languages. I am motivated by questions such as how linguistic theory can inform model development, how open datasets can reduce bias, and how user-centred research can lead to more responsible language technologies. For me, technology should not only be powerful, but also reflective of the diversity of its users.

Beyond academia, I draw inspiration from creative domains such as music, fashion, and sports. As an Ajax supporter and avid follower of music and fashion culture, I enjoy exploring how these worlds intersect with technology and influence the way we design, communicate, and create.

Always curious about what is next, especially when it brings creativity, research and impact together.

If you are interested in collaborating, exchanging ideas, or simply talking about football, music, or the future of inclusive technology, feel free to reach out.
